Stop Rushing Through Your Meal and Start Eating Mindfully

Mindful eatingHave you ever really paid attention to the foods you’re eating? Have you ever tried closing your eyes while eating a meal? Have you listened to the sounds of the food as you’re eating it?

If you haven’t, then you’ve never experienced mindful eating. Mindful eating can help you to be more in tune with your body’s hunger and fullness cues, and help you to stay present in the moment while you’re eating.

When you eat mindfully, you are more likely to eat slower, consume less, and feel more satisfied.

“It can help you normalize your relationship with food,” said Dr. Nicole Riddle, a therapist at Clearview Women’s Center in Los Angeles, which offers Dialectical Behavior Therapy programs for Borderline Personality Disorder treatment. “Mindful eating can help you to gain awareness in terms of your hunger and fullness levels, and your judgments about food.”
